“กิน”(v.) – to eat

Hi guys,

I just got back from another fabulous weekend at Sri Panwa, Phuket. So please be on the look out for another fun-filled entry. In the mean time, I have a short update about what I’ve been up to, food-wise.

So, I finally got a chance to visit the beautiful Thann Boutique Cafe. I’ve heard a lot of great things about their spa products. Unexpectedly, their cafe also lived up to my high expectations. The first thing that struck me was the beautiful and unique decor. The walls and ceiling are completely covered in cardboard leaves. I know that sounds a lil tacky, but the effect it gives is far from that. I’ll let the beautiful pictures do the talking.

First we started off with some refreshing beverages. Mine was orange passion fruit with chamomile and ginger tea. I forgot the name of the other one though, ha ha. But they were both good!

The food was also great. They put a new twist in many of the old favorites, such as instead of having the usual fries and dip, they served us a deliciously rich mushroom dip with more healthful accompaniments such as crispy lotus roots chips and wasabi okra. My favorite dish, though, had to be the fresh fruit and dried shrimp salad (somtum,) which instead of having the usual peanuts in the dish, it had the richer macadamia nuts instead, so yummy! Another dish we had was Red curry with roasted duck. This kind of curry is known to be on the sweet side since it has fruits in it. This one had a good balance of sweetness and spiciness, although I think it would be more suitable for foreigners’ pallets.

Before desserts, I had a chance to digest by walking around the shop and browsing their wide range of beauty products. The people at the cafe were very knowledgeable about the products and thoroughly explained them to me one by one. We ended up going home with some shopping bags in hand!

The dessert we had was the banoffee pie, which, again, had a little twist of its own. Sandwiched between the crust and the bananas is a layer of coffee-flavored caramel which cuts through the sweetness nicely. All in all, a very satisfying meal. We’ll definitely be back when we feel like something fresh and (somewhat) guilty.

Apart from this delicious meal at Thann, I also had 4 other great meals at some old favorite places:

  • The Horse says Moo

  • Som Tum Nua

  • Sweet Hound

  • Hyde and Seek.
