Foie Gras Wednesday

Hi there,

If someone were to ask me which restaurants I frequent most often in Bangkok, I could easily come up with about 10 names of places that I visit at least once a month, and Wine Pub at Pullman Bangkok King Power is surely one of them. One can not deny that the competition amongst restaurants in Bangkok is getting tougher by the minute and that affordability is one of the important keys to staying on top of the game, Therefore there is no doubt that we are in the era of the “specials;” however, I rarely find a restaurant that offers a special menu that is truly special in terms of both the affordability and the quality of the food. Luckily the weekly promotions at Wine Pub have both.

The weekly promotion at Wine Pub changes daily and lasts from 6 to 10 pm. I have always been a big fan of their Saturday promotion – the “all you can eat Tapas” including 1 bottle of wine at 1,290 Baht. Therefore, I was very happy to be invited to try their new Wednesday special of the French foie gras and one bottle of wine for the same price.

The foie gras comes in a set of 4, each prepared in a different way to allow you to sample four different flavors and textures.

  • Natural four gras terrine with baguette and asian pear chutney

  • Foie gras cromesquis – deep fried jelly of foie gras served with calvados reduction

Image

  • Pan seared foie gras with Paris mushrooms marinated in olive oil served with balsamic reduction

  • Soft baked foie gras royal and assorted mushroom ragout

I particularly enjoy the seared foie gras which has just enough crust on the outside to encase the creaminess of the inside. And I also found the soft baked foie gras to be very interesting. I have never tasted foie gras in this form before it reminds me of chawanmushi or Japanese steamed egg.

I also got to try the 18-hours-braised wagyu beef cheek which was fork tender and flavorful and goes perfectly with creamed potatoes.

Here are some of the other dishes from that night.

Fine de Claire Oysters

Assorted Macarons (I find the green pandan-flavored one to be very unique)

Thank you Wine Pub for a lovely night.
